MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- It was quite the sight at the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall in Milford where the lower level of the mall is closed because of flooding.
Update: The lower level remains closed on Saturday. It is expected to reopen on Sunday.
Heavy rain had people racing out of the stores on the lower level. When shoppers got to the parking lot the water was up to their knees. Then, when they made their way out to Route 1 there was more trouble.
It was a wet and wild day in Milford. Not only outside, but inside.
Doors are locked outside the Connecticut Post Mall because of flooding.
"I just tried to get in the mall down below. The sign says it's closed," said Al Saren. "I just need to go to Verizon."
"Is Verizon on the first floor," asked News 8's Erin Logan.
"I don't think so," replied Saren. "I think the upper level, so I'm in luck."
Just when people thought they could spend their afternoon getting errands done, no luck.
"I just wanted to grab a couple of CDs and work pants," said Chip Perry, "but I'll have to go the other way."
One man's day ended early because of the heavy rain. He's a general contractor building new stores inside the mall, but Friday he watched folks fight there way through the flooded parking garage and parking lot.
"The water, just like up to here, and it was flooding everything," said Joe Ferenc. "People were just trudging through it here, so it was pretty good."
News 8 is told the lower level of the mall will be closed for the rest of the night. The top floor and the movies are open.
