Accident closes Dixwell Ave. in Hamden

Hamden, Conn. (WTNH) - A portion of Dixwell Avenue in Hamden is closed after a car smashed into a telephone pole.

The accident happened in the area of Sanford Street around 10am.

Police say a 25-year old woman was driving south on Dixwell when she became distracted by a spider that was in her car. She lost control and struck the pole.

The woman's name has not been released. She was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.

The road is expected to be closed for a few hours as crews repair the pole.
