NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The city of New Haven is helping young, un-documented citizens apply for temporary work permits.
In June the Obama administration announced that young people, who arrived in this country before the age of 16, and have lived here continuously for five years, will be able to apply for work permits without the fear of being deported.
So, starting on August 15th, people trying to attain that "deferred action" status can get the all basic information they need in one place, at the New Haven Legal Assistance office.
"So, this one front door in New Haven hear what the rules are, how they apply to you, what the next steps are and its free thanks for the philanthropic support that's enabled it," said Mayor John DeStefano.
The DeStefano administration believes up to 2,000 young people in the city could benefit from the "Deferred action" program.
