Hidden camera found in Walmart dressing room

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A local Walmart is checking their dressing rooms a little closer after a secret camera was reportedly found in one of them.

A Walmart spokesperson says they alerted police immediately.

"I think it's pretty creepy, absolutely," said Andrew Metzdorf, Walmart shopper.

"It was very disturbing," said Bonnie Rogers, Walmart shopper.

"A little strange quite frankly," said Bill Rogers, Walmart shopper, "I don't think they're going to have too many nice views in the Walmart dressing room. It's like ok c'mon buddy."

The camera didn't get any views according to Walmart spokesperson Ashley Hardie. She says no one's privacy was invaded and added it was unacceptable and inappropriate.

"You hear this stuff all too often it seems these days," said Bill Rogers. "I'm not sure what's going on."

He's right. Back in August, a West Hartford Starbucks bathroom was targeted.

Police say 51-year-old Paul Deveau confessed to the crime and police say he admitted he put cameras in three other locations: a Bloomfield Starbucks, a gas station in Hebron, and a Subway.

Police are not commenting on the case right now, but Walmart says they contacted them to catch the person responsible.

"I hope they get him, I hope something happens to him," said Metzdorf. "I wouldn't want that to happen to my mother or sister."

Walmart asked their employees to frequently check the fitting rooms for anything out of the ordinary.

As for the Rogers, they're taking their own precautionary measures.

"We won't be going clothes shopping, but thank you anyways," Rogers said.

If folks really want to take an active step there are hidden camera detectors. News 8 discovered them online and they sell anywhere from about $30 to more than $100.
