NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- This weekend parents and volunteers will be knocking on doors in New Haven making sure parents know about opportunities available for their kids.
New Haven Promise, the United Way, and local clergy leaders will be going door-to-door making sure parents know about the New Haven Promise college scholarship program. It can pay for college for kids who qualify.
"They need more parental guidance," said Rev. Boise Kimber, CT Missionary Baptist Convention. "So this program here will allow men to reconnect with their children. And so it is important to this community and it is important to us who are fathers. And who have children who live in this community."
The weekend canvassing will focus on New Haven's Dixwell and Newhallville neighborhoods.
