Dad outraged kindergarten twins dropped at wrong stop

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A first day of kindergarten experience went horribly wrong for a parent who worried he'd never see his twins again.

"The bus got a little late so I was worried," said Alqi Tasho.

That nervousness became a sick feeling as Tasho stood at the bus stop and saw other kids dropped off, but not his own.

"You still seem nervous," said News 8's Erin Logan.

"I am nervous," Tasho said.

As Tasho spoke with News 8 about the incident he got choked up.

It was clearly a horrible first experience having his kindergarten twins on a bus.

"I was calling back and forth my wife, what time is the bus coming," he said.

Ten minutes later, he saw them with a lady, so he ran down his street towards them.

"She walked them to me and I thanked her," Tasho said.

News 8 spoke to the woman too. She tells us she was picking up her 10-year-old at the corner of Bradley and Wesley.

She says the twins were standing in front of a store alone. She says the boy was nervous.

The school says the twins were dropped off two blocks from their home. However, for them to walk from that corner store it's much further than that. They would have to walk all the way up Bradley, and then take a left onto Anna., continuing on Anna which has no sidewalks, to the fork in the road, then continuing up the road two blocks to their house.

"How about if somebody kidnapped them? Who was going to be there," said Tasho.

"There's no excuse, simply no excuse," said Paul Guidone, Waterbury Schools.

Waterbury Public Schools says kindergarten and first graders are all tagged with green bracelets with their name and address and they were upset when they heard what happened. They immediately called the bus company, Durham School Services.

News 8 is told the driver isn't new.

"Besides being suspended, the driver is being required to go through re-training and has been taken off that route," said Guidone.

"What do you think about the driver's punishment, three days suspension," asked Logan.

"Not fair enough, ya know. She should get fired," Tasho said.

News 8 went to ask the bus company for a comment, but they said they did not have anything to say at this time.

"Even the bus company should call me and apologize to me," Tasho said.

A bus company spokesperson tells News 8 they're taking this very seriously. Termination in a case like this is always a possibility.
