NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A local science teacher is among three national finalists who could win $10,000 for their school.

Lauren Danner, who teaches science at North Branford High School, is one of three finalists in the "Here Comes the Boom" contest.

Danner wasn't even aware that she had been nominated until just last week when Steven, one of her students, mentioned it.

"Steven had mentioned that to me. He likes my crazy examples...I'm one of those wacky science teachers," Danner said. "That's probably got something to do with it."

The winner of the contest will be awarded $10,000 towards funding extra-curricular activities at their school.

Danner is said to have been nominated for inspiring her students.
