New Haven (WTNH) - New Haven's famous Pepe's Pizzeria opened a little early Monday so a couple could combine their love of each other with their love of Pepe's thin crust.
Gus and Pamela DaSilva, of Indiana, were in town visiting his son who was about to be deployed to Iraq. They had dinner at Pepe's the day after Christmas and an idea came to Gus' mind -- get married in front of the ovens at Pepe's; his favorite place to eat in the world.
"We wanted to get married. We wanted to put two and two together and just being at Pepe's there's a lot of memories," said Gus.
"Normal day, business as usual. Gus asked me how I felt about the possibility of a wedding happening here. I kind of said, 'Hey, you know everything else has happened here at Pepe's, why not a wedding?'" said GM of Frank Pepe's Steve Adkins.
In front of the ovens, just two days after the unusual request, Gus and Pamela tied the knot.
And here's an extra topping they're able to do it with son Roi in attendance. The Army National Guardsman is going to be deployed to Iraq in just a few days.
"This was a very important time in my life. I needed to make sure my dad was okay. We loved her. I met Pam years ago and I've been coming here since I was a little kid so this was really important that I see my father married here," said Roi.
Because Roi knows, when the moon hits your eye like a Pepe's pizza pie, it's most definitely amore.
So with such an unusual wedding where's the honeymoon? They DaSilvas said nowhere special, just somewhere in Indiana.
Gus' son Roi will be deployed in just two days. Roi said he was taken aback by the unusual wedding, but was happy to be able see his dad and Pamela tie the knot.
