Madison (WTNH) - A touching story out of Madison where one local Marine is honoring his hometown.
Lt. Matthew Russell presented the town of Madison with a flag which he flew over his base in Iraq this past 4th of July.
Russell is grateful for the care packages sent from his hometown.
"Junk food, baseball gloves, lacrosse stuff," he said.
Russell, a local lacrosse star, arranged to have an American Flag flown over the Phoenix Base in Iraq on behalf of Madison Youth Lacrosse. He says it was the young lacrosse players that sent many of care packages.
"It's a very generous town for sure, a lot of people who didn't even know what lacrosse is sure know what lacrosse is," said Russell.
So today, Russell gave that flag back to his hometown.
"A great opportunity to just give back. A small opportunity after such a big gesture from Madison," he said.
The flag will be hung in Town Hall across from the recreation office - where local kids come and sign up for lacrosse.
