Hamden, Conn. (WTNH) - A man was taken to the hospital after falling from the Sleeping Giant in Hamden Sunday evening.

The 17-year-old male fell roughly 200 ft. from the chin area of Sleeping Giant State Park.

Rescuers had to work quickly due to darkness falling and the severity of the injuries, which included multiple fractures.

"We have a report that he was conscious when we got to him," said Chief David Bernardesca, Hamden Fire Dept., "he was actually waving to our people."

Chief Bernardesca continued on to say, "our people did have to use the stokes basket to bring him down. We had about 14 people up on the mountain to do this rescue."

LifeStar was originally called and en route, but was canceled as rescuers were able to get to the victim and get him out quickly.

The victim was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital.

His identify has not yet been released.
