Maturo releases statement on latest EH cop arrest

EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) --A retired East Haven Police Officer has been charged for stealing money from the departments evidence locker.

According to the New Haven Register , former officer Michael D'Amato was charged today for the money theft incident which occurred in March 2011.

D'Amato retired from the East Haven Police Department in December 2011.

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo released the following statement regarding the recent allegations against D'Amato.

"The East Haven Police Department and our administration continue to deal with the challenges that arise day to day.  Although these challenges arose prior to my administration, they present another opportunity for reflection and improvement within our Department and within the Town.   The Mayor's office will continue to work with the Police Department for the residents of the Town of East Haven to ensure the highest quality service of our Police Department."
