MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Tragedy hit a Milford Family when both parents died after being hit on the side of the road. Two days after the blizzard they were walking along the shoulder of the road as sidewalks still had feet of snow.
"Someone called me up and said did you hear what happened to them," said Father Andrew Marus, Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Church.
Father Andrew Marus knows the Tanski family. The parents and 3 children are all devoted to the church. He says on his first day ten years ago, he saw them in the back pew and the weekend before the blizzard that's were they were.
"You don't want that to happen to anybody, but they were a nice, nice family," said Father Marus. "All things being equal, Kevin and Brenda had a lot of living to do before this happened."
The priest says the family was cooped up after a few days of being snowed in so they took a trip to Dunkin Donuts. They were walking along the street because the sidewalk hadn't been plowed and that's when the family outing took a tragic turn.
"It's a tragedy. Three great young people lost their parents," said Father Marus.
Milford police say a car struck the parents and their middle child, 21-year-old Jenny. The father, Kevin, died the very next day and the mother, Brenda, held on 5 days and later died.
Jenny survived and is back home and now helps her siblings plan the funeral.
"This is something that I've been praying about too because I've never had a situation where something like this happened," said Father Marus. "I think in times like this the words are not as important as what we do."
He says they will have their family and faith for support.
