NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Naugatuck school was placed in a precautionary lockdown Wednesday after police received a report of shots fired in the area.
Just before 9 a.m. police responded to the area of Andrew Mountain Rd./Andrew Ave. extension after a report of gun shots heard in the woods.
Police said while there was no threat to Andrew Ave. School, it was placed in a precautionary lockdown due to its close proximity.
According to police, a thorough check of the area found no person in the woods and there were no further reports of gun shots.
As a result of the search, the lockdown was canceled.
Officers continued to investigate the incident and located the source of "shots," which have been determined to be illegal fireworks.
As an additional precaution, police said an officer remained at the school for the remainder of the day.
