NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Nine hypodermic needles apparently washed ashore at New Haven's Lighthouse Point Park Wednesday.
It was the overcast skies, not the needles that washed up on the beach that kept folks from heading to Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven on Thursday.
"I promised them to come today and I didn't hear about the story about the needles that were found, but even if I did hear about it, it wouldn't stop me from coming," said Kim Sweat.
On Wednesday nine hypodermic needles were found along the water line. No beach goers ever touched or came in contact with them.
On Thursday lifeguards walked the waterline every hour and even though no additional needles turned up, folks are still on the alert.
"Now that you told me what happened yesterday I will keep an eye out," Sweat said. "I will be cautious for my nieces and my nephews."
The beach never closed despite the discovery of the needles. Officials point out most of them still had caps on and it appeared they hadn't been used. This is considered to be an isolated incident.
The city's parks and recreation day camps continued activities at the park, even those in the water. All the counselors were made aware, making sure campers don't get curious should something else wash ashore.
