New Haven, Conn (WTNH) - New Haven police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed a hit-and-run accident on Front Street early Saturday morning that killed a teenage boy.

14-year-old Kyshant Moore was riding his bicycle down Front Street towards Grand Avenue around 12:15am. He drifted into the street because snow had made the road more narrow. While Moore was in the middle of the street, he was struck by a black 4-door vehicle. The car then fled the scene.

Moore was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

"My heart is just shattered and broken," Kyshant's mother, Lakhiya Moore said. "This was my oldest son. He hadn't even begun his life yet."

Moore, a student at the Wexler-Grant school in New Haven, was supposed to be at his father's house, but had gone with a friend to a party.

Just the day before, the family had buried their grandmother, and now they are dealing with this heartbreaking loss.

"It's almost not like reality. We just buried our grandmother yesterday, so for this, it's unreal. I'm really just lost for words. He was outgoing, always helpful, always cared about his family," Lakhiya Moore said.

The family is stunned that someone just drove off and left the injured teen lying in the road.

"It's not right, and I just want to encourage anybody out in the community who seen anything, because somebody knows something," Moore's cousin Leshanda Long said.

The boy's mother is pleading for the driver to come forward.

"Please, please if you have a heart, please turn yourself in," she said.

The investigation is ongoing. New Haven police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this accident to call them at 203-946-6316, or 203-946-6304.

The Moore family is asking the community for donations for funeral costs.

Donations can be sent to:
639 Orchard Street
New Haven CT 06511.
