New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - A construction crew working in New Haven struck a high-pressure gas main, prompting evacuations.

It happened in the area of Quinnipiac Ave. and East Grand Ave. around 3pm, shutting down roads in the area.

The odor of natural gas permeated the air for more than an hour.

Initially 15 multi-family homes were evacuated, but that has been reduced to seven homes, or 20 people.

No injuries have been reported.
