NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A New Haven man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for a 2009 fatal shooting.
The New Haven Register reports ( http://bit.ly/ROieUD ) that Darry Staton was sentenced for first-degree manslaughter with a firearm in the shooting death of Enrique Lawrence.
Superior Court Judge Patrick Clifford also imposed a 20-year sentence for first-degree assault. He made it concurrent with the manslaughter sentence.
The assault charge was related to the shooting by the 41-year-old Staton of Lawrence's mother, Linda Lawrence, at the time he shot her son in February 2009.
During jury selection in September, Staton decided to not risk a conviction at trial and an even longer sentence than he received in the plea deal. He was originally charged with murder.
Take a look at some of the Report It photos we received in November, 2012.
