New Haven pleased with school climate survey results

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The New Haven public schools are excited about a new report that shows more people connected with the district are satisfied with the way things are going.

The district released the results of its third annual climate survey Wednesday.

Students, teachers, parents and staff members were given the opportunity to give their feedback on critical issues like academic expectations, safety, respect and communication.

District officials say they're encouraged by the fact that a higher percentage of people took part in the survey this year than in year's past.

"We have worked so hard to bring about a family type atmosphere," said Peggy Moore, Wilbur Cross principal. "We feel we are doing that with the number of parents who are satisfied and above all the number of students who are satisfied."

"I am especially happy to know that most parents feel that kids are safe in our school, that they are challenged academically, and that everybody feels welcome at Nathan Hale," said Lucia Paolello, Nathan Hale School.

The results of the climate survey are used by the district to set performance goals for the upcoming years.
