East Haven (AP) - East Haven's Board of Ethics has dismissed an ethics complaint against Mayor April Capone Almon, a week after U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro came to the mayor's defense and called the allegation a dirty political attack.
Former police board member William Illingworth filed the complaint last month, questioning whether Capone Almon violated town ethics rules by giving a secretary a nearly $10,000 raise because of an undeclared "personal relationship."
The Ethics Board voted 2-0 Wednesday night to dismiss the complaint, saying the raise didn't appear to be improper.
Capone Almon did not attend the meeting and did not return messages seeking comment. She has said that her relationship with secretary Erica Berg is no different from her relationships with other staff members.
