Off-duty cop injured in fatal accident

Cheshire (WTNH) - An off-duty state cop is in stable condition, and a female passenger is dead, after a motorcycle v. car accident on Route 322 in Cheshire.

Shortly before 5 p.m., police responded to Meriden/Waterbury Turnpike, at Honey Road, to investigate a serious crash.

The off-duty trooper and his female passenger were both ejected from the motorcycle and taken to St. Mary's Hospital for serious injuries. The female passenger died at the hospital.

The operator of the vehicle had to be extricated from the car and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital. Neither the driver nor the teeanged passenger were hurt. At this time, the names of the operators or the passengers are not being released until notification to family has been confirmed.

According to police, the operator and passenger of the motorcycle were not wearing helmets.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cheshire Police Traffic Division and any witnesses are asked to contact the Cheshire Police at 203-271-5500.
