East Haven Mayor April Capone Almon, who had an arrest and an ethics complaint lodged weeks before the election, will hold onto her job for a second term.
Republican challenger John Finkle conceded.
"Oh my gosh, are you ready for two more years," Mayor Almon said to her cheering supporters.
It was a tough campaign. Just 8 weeks ago, the mayor was arrested for interfering with police for trying to stop an officer from towing cars. Her mug shot was featured in her opponent's on-line advertisement.
Finkle felt focusing on town finances would have put him over the top.
"We ran a hard campaign, we really thought we had the numbers and I guess not," he said.
Mayor Almon says it's now time to move on - that voters have sent a message loud and clear.
