East Haven (WTNH) - East Haven's Police Chief confirms paperwork has been filed with the court seeking to arrest his own boss Mayor April Capone Almon.

Chief Leonard Gallo would not say what charge is outlined in the warrant application complaint; he only said it stems from a July incident when an officer accused the mayor of interfering.

In the official report, the officer claims the mayor ordered him to stop ticketing and towing cars from a beach parking lot.

Officer Michael Sarbo claimed the cars were blocking an exit but that the Mayor arrived yelling to him this was political.

The officer had run unsuccessfully as a Republican for town council; the mayor is a Democrat. When News Channel 8 talked to the mayor about it, two weeks ago, she defended her actions; she said it wasn't interfering but a better way to handle the situation.

This is what she said on August 12th: "My response is that I certainly believe in our officers and their judgment and their ability to follow the law when I see that judgment is skewed; I will step in."

No charges have been filed; this is a process where police submit an affidavit and it is reviewed by the state's attorney to determine if it meets standards for probable cause; State's Attorney Michael Dearington declined to comment.

As for Mayor Capone Almon, who is running for re-election, she would only say she has not been officially notified by the chief nor by anyone that a request has been made for her arrest.
