Milford (WTNH) - Things are getting back to normal at the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall in Milford after a soffit collapsed on the upper level Monday morning.
What a difference a day makes. The debris is cleaned up and shopper are walking by with no worries about falling facades.
"The face over the store is gone and it looks like a construction site in front of the store but the inside of the store is fine," said Katherine Allen, who was shopping at the mall today.
"I wasn't worried. I heard what happened but it didn't worry me. They took care of it pretty quick," said another shopper, Carlos Forti of Bristol.
A 200-foot section overhang peeled away from the wall sending large pieces of sheetrock to the ground. A 27-year old man who was walking underneath was hit by the falling debris and suffered a back injury.
The mall never shut down on Monday, but certain areas were blocked off. Today, those stores and the playground below re-opened.
"There was no damage to the storefronts and this morning the building inspector came out and cleared the area as safe and allowed the four stores to re-open," said Lee Ann Sterling, Westfield Connecticut Post.
Milford's building inspector examined other similar soffits in the mall to make sure they were structurally sound. But the final report on what caused the collapse is not yet complete.
