New Haven (WTNH) - People living in Connecticut are being challenged to buy and eat local produce.
Sunday, August 2nd kicks off National Farmer's Market Week and the State AG Commissioner has challenged each resident to eat one local grown product a day for the week.
"You know exactly where you are getting it from, you can talk to the people who grew and ask them any questions you want," said Rachel Berg of City Seed. "And, it's delicious."
City Seed sponsors the farmer's market in New Haven where the carrots, celery and the ripe, red radishes were pulled from the ground in the morning, washed and taken to market with hours.
"It is great to buy form the farmer," said Rachel Correia of Shelton. "This is what they do to raise their family, so it's great to support somebody else instead of buying from somebody you don't know."
Besides corn, carrots and tomatoes you can find fresh baked goods from the bakeries and fresh-cut flowers and some things you may never heard of like mizona and fresh frill; it tastes like horse raddish. The point is you can experience new things right around the corner.
City Seed has four farmers markets in New Haven.
