"These dogs are great dogs," said Steven Hall of Pilots N Paws. "I've adopted one myself."

Thanks to Steven, and several other animal rescue organizations, dogs slated to be destroyed in the South are soon to be adopted in the North.

North Haven (WTNH) - A group of puppies will be looking for a new home thanks to "Pilots N Paws." The program is hosted by volunteers, with planes, who fly hundreds of miles to rescue animals that would otherwise be killed in overfilled shelters.

You wouldn't know it by looking at his single engine plane, but Steven Hall carried 18 passengers inside whose journey has just begun. And there's nothing like flying first class to begin a great adventure.

Of course, these passengers won't be racking up any frequent flier miles, but thanks to Steven, and several other animal rescue organizations, dogs slated to be destroyed in the South are soon to be adopted in the North. If Steven had a tail, he'd be wagging.

"What you have to do is take a look at the videos at how they gas 'em and put 'em down there. These dogs are great dogs," said Steven. "I've adopted one myself."

Steven said his mission first started with looking for just a reason to get air time.

I was looking for a reason to fly and not burn gas flying around in circles," said Steve. "I saw animals needed help and that was what started me."

The dogs will be adopted at an event next week. As for Steven, thanks to his new calling, flying the friendly skies are more rewarding with man's best friend on board.

"I had a mild tailwind when I got the dogs on board. But I had a good head-wind going down there," he said.

The adoption event will be held at the PETSMART located at 400 Universal Drive in North Haven. It runs Friday through Sunday, July 10th, 11th, and 12th from 10AM-6PM. The line starts forming at 8AM.
