Wallingford (WTNH) - Police are investigating a serious accident that ejected a rear seat passenger of a car and caused a hazardous diesel spill. Officials say it all stemmed from a car and semi tractor-trailer colliding on East Center Street, around 4 p.m., Wednesday.

The driver of the car, 18- year-old Daniel Vardon, of Wallingford was transported to MidState Medical Center, treated and released.

The rear seat passenger, who was ejected, was identified as Marcus Massaro, age 18, of Wallingford. He was treated at the scene for injuries and transported by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital. A second rear seat passenger was identified as Kayla Brangiero, age 19, of Meriden. She was also transported by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The conditions of Massaro and Brangiero are unknown at this time.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 51-year-old Alan Rosa of Meriden, was not injured in the collision.

The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles, including a ruptured 100-gallon fuel tank on the tractor-trailer.

The diesel fuel leak was contained by the Wallingford Fire Department. The Conn. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) responded to evaluate the environmental impact and contracted an environmental services company to help maintain and clean the spill.

The roadway is closed to traffic, as of 10 p.m., due to the ongoing clean-up.

Meanwhile, the crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Wallingford Police Department at 203-294-2817.
