NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - The FBI released numbers this week that show New Haven is the fourth most violent city in America. The study comes as the city deals with a recent rash of shootings: 7 in just 24 hours.

FBI's Most Dangerous Cities in America.

1. Flint, MI
2. Detroit, MI
3. St. Louis, MO
4. New Haven, CT

"Every single day on the news someone is getting shot," says Matt of New Haven

"its been a frustrating and frightening 48 hours for a lot of our neighbors," says Mayor John DeStefano.

New Haven was rocked by seven shootings in just 48 hours, including West Ivy Street where a man was shot in the leg, Ferry Street cars were sprayed by bullets, and Lilac Street a man was shot in the arm.

Now many are looking to see how police will respond.

News 8 was told that Police Chief Frank Limon is out of town, and the plan is to stick to the plan, stay the course and continue high visibility patrols, increase traffic enforcement and responding to hot spots.

"They tell me the hot spots and within their areas and that way we can be flexible and move motorcycles and crime suppressions to these areas," says Chief Patrick Redding of the NHPD.

"Not announcing a new program today, and we don't want to present it as such, we're going to stay organized and persistent," says DeStefano.

New Haven Police say many times the victims that are shot don't cooperate with police so they are asking anyone with tips to call the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6304.
