BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Branford Police are posting pictures of stolen items on their website in hopes of helping victims identify their personal property.

There have been several burglaries in the Cherry Hill Road area and police believe others may not have been reported, police said. Police are asking residents to take inventory of their valuables and visit the website if something goes missing.

"In the past crime victims have had to make appointments with evidence detectives to view property that may have been taken from them in crimes," said Detective Lieutenant William Carroll said in a news release, "the ability to post pictures on our website helps us streamline the process and expedite the investigation."

Police are also trying to stop the stolen items from being pawned.

"In addition, a substantial amount of jewelry is pawned or taken to precious metal dealers daily," Carroll said. "Many times by criminals who have stolen items in crimes that may have not been reported to the police. Our partnership with these businesses and this technology will help us identify these stolen items."

Chief Kevin Halloran said, "Unfortunately we know that there are investigations when criminals are arrested and our officers have determined that they have pawned jewelry that is not identified. We are hopeful that this technology will close the gap in identifying other crime victims and crimes that have not yet been reported."

Visit the website here.

If you have a crime or have identified items that are missing, please contact Branford Police at (203) 481-4241.
