WOLCOTT, Conn. (AP) — Wolcott police say they won't be charging a man in connection with an ATV accident that killed his 14-year-old nephew.

The Republican-American of Waterbury reported Monday that town police decided not to charge 32-year-old Ronald Markeveys of Bristol, after meeting with a state prosecutor last week.

Markeveys and his nephew, Christopher Bard of Plymouth, were riding ATVs at about 1:30 a.m. on April 22 when Bard crashed into a closed gate at the end of Beecher Road. The boy later died of chest injuries at Bristol Hospital.

Police say Markeveys didn't have a cell phone and rushed to his home five minutes away to call 911.

Authorities say the two had been riding ATVs on private watershed property before the accident, despite no trespassing signs.
