NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH) -- Three people were rescued from the Naugatuck River Friday afternoon, fire department officials say.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, three people, two men and one woman, were kayaking down the Naugatuck River.

Two of the kayakers struck a tree, which had fallen into the river. With part of the tree submerged, it may have been difficult to see the tree.

One of the men and the woman had to be rescued by firefighters and both were brought back to land safely.

All of the three kayakers were wearing life jackets when they went on the river.

No injuries were reported and the scene was cleared before 7 p.m.

The incident happened in the vicinity of the Polish American Club.
