New Haven, Conn. (AP) - A court ruling that overturned two men's convictions in a 1993 New Haven murder and ordered their release is
on hold while prosecutors consider whether to appeal.
Superior Court Judge Stanley Fuger ruled Thursday that Ronald Taylor and George Gould should be immediately released from prison, saying they are the victims of a "manifest injustice." His ruling came after a star witness recanted.
Prosecutors were granted an emergency stay of the ruling until Monday afternoon to decide whether to appeal.
Prosecutor James Clark, who tried the case, said the judge blocked the state from presenting important evidence on the recantation and predicted his ruling would be reversed.
Taylor and Gould were convicted of killing Eugenio Deleon Vega, a New Haven shop owner.
