NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- A group gathered today at the New Haven City Hall, calling for immigration reform and blasting the existing federal program, known as secure communities.

This was all part of a national tour called the "Keeping Families Together Bus Tour,"  aimed at raising awareness about how the immigration system is separating families.

Mayor John Destefano was on hand for today's event and said "we should not take immigration reform legislation this year for granted."

"I believe it is critical that Americans and elected officials in D.C. know just how broken our immigration system is and how badly it impacts hard working families, many who have been ripped apart by over zealous immigration enforcement," said  Kicos Matos.

This tour has visited more than 90 cities in 19 states. It wraps up tomorrow in Boston.
