DMV: driver in crash that killed Oxford teen had record

Oxford, Conn. (WTNH) - News 8 is learning more about the driving record of the person behind the wheel of a car that crashed and killed an Oxford teenager over the weekend.

A teddy bear is still strapped into back seat where 15-year-old Brandon Giordano was riding when the Mustang crashed killing him.

New 8 has obtained driving records of Eric Ramirez who was behind the wheel. They show the 19-year-old had five violations since getting his license in March 2010, requiring that he go to driver retraining not once, but twice.

"In march 2011 he got third, he needed to go to driver retraining again cause he has got these violations on his record," said Bill Seymour, CT DMV. "Every time you get a new one you need to go back until they are all expunged."

Ramirez had completed the retraining classes when he was behind the wheel Friday night.

Police say Ramirez failed to pull over Friday night in Seymour; the car hit an embankment going airborne, slamming into the second story of an office building.

It appears the top on the convertible was down.

Giordano was pronounced dead on the scene.

It isn't clear why police wanted to stop Ramirez, but an emergency responder at the accident scene tells News 8 the car had illegal neon lights affixed to the under carriage.

DMV documents show he had been cited for the lights last April.

A DMV spokesman tells News 8 that despite his previous violations, the law at the time did not require suspension, as it does now.
