New Haven, Conn (WTNH) - In New Haven, most restaurants and coffee shops were open Wednesday, but almost every other business was closed.
Derek Humphrey used his own special snow shoes to get to Trailblazer in New Haven today to open up the shop.
"Yeah, it was fun. I actually had a few people ask 'how are you just flying through the snow?' Snow shoes. I passed some girl in stilettos trying to walk down Whitney Ave. I don't know how she was getting along, but it wasn't too quickly," Humphrey said.
While it may not be worth it for most retailers to open on a day like today, Trailblazer is selling boots and gloves.
One business that was open Wednesday that you wouldn't expect was Wave Gallery on Chapel Street. A slow wintry day like today provided an opportunity.
"Actually right now I'll be honest, we're right in the middle of store inventory, so I've been continuing on with inventory even though nobody else is here," said Debbie Fillos from Wave Gallery.
