WOLCOTT, Conn. (WTNH) -- Students at Terryville High are mourning the loss of a classmate after a 14-year-old boy was killed in an ATV accident over the weekend.
Freshman Christopher Bard was killed in an ATV accident on Sunday.
Grief counselors were on hand at both the high school and Bard's former middle school to help students cope with this sudden death.
"We basically set up a plan for the kids to go down to see the counselors if they emotionally feel they need it, or if the teachers feel they need it, or if the teachers feel the students need it," said Terryville High School Principal Brian Falcone.
It was 1:30 Sunday morning when the accident happened in Wolcott.
Bard was riding his ATV in the rain along with his uncle when drove into a closed metal fence on Beecher Road.
The teen died from chest injuries.
Police are still investigating but tell News 8 the uncle may face criminal charges. The land is private property and clearly marked with no trespassing signs.
Falcone says Bard enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family.
"He was a family kid, he loved his family." he said. "He loved the outdoors, camping fishing, ATV. He loved it all, but he was really a family kid."
Funeral arrangements have not been released.
