Taking a few moments to save a life

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- All it takes is a few moments of your time and you could save a life. That's the idea behind the 1st Annual Dunkin' Donuts "Gift of Life" Fall Harvest Funfest that took place in Wallingford on Saturday.

The event was part blood drive and part bone marrow and organ donation registry.

Every 10 minutes, someone is added to the organ donor waiting list and among them 5-year-old Diane.

She needs a liver transplant. Her mother says even if a donor for her daughter wasn't found at the event, she hopes the event will lead to at least one life saved.

"We are hoping to just encourage people to consider organ donation and to also become aware to kind of de-myth, debug the myths behind organ donation," Diane's mom said, "and if someone walks away today thinking they may want to be an organ donor, that would make my day."

Because livers regenerate, you can be a living donor.
