HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — A retired paper industry executive and member of Quinnipiac University's board of trustees has donated $1 million to the university's business school.

The university announced Tuesday that the gift from trustees' vice chairman Carlton Highsmith will be used for the School of Business' entrepreneurship program.

Quinnipiac has established the Carlton Highsmith Chair in Entrepreneurship and will match Highsmith's gift, starting a $2 million fund.

Matthew O'Connor, dean of the School of Business, called it a remarkable gift that instantly raises the school's program to a new level.

Highsmith is the retired vice chairman of PaperWorks Industries of Philadelphia.
