New Haven, Conn (WTNH) - It's unusual for the neighborhood. A house on Front Street, known for drug activity, is now known for homicide.

It's just too close to home for folks who live near Quinnipiac River Park. A double homicide took place just steps from their front door.

"It's frightening. It's very frightening, you don't know. The crime just seems to be spreading and spreading," said Barry Gladeu from New Haven.

Around 9:30 Saturday night, police responded to a triple shooting on Front Street, and about one mile down on Poplar Street.

When cops hit the scene they found 32-year-old Michael Fernandez and 25-year-old Marquis Sumler, suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest. They died while witholding information from investigators.

Down on Poplar Street, 32-year-old Samuel Maebry was found with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg, and he also refused to give information to police.

It all went down after some sort of dispute back on Front Street. The house is a place characterized by police as, "redundant drug dealing and habitual drug use." The location was also the target of previous drug investigations by the NHPD Tactical Narcotics Unit.

Crystal Manning won't belive it.

"When you hear there's a shooting right here, I mean? It's scary. For the last 10 years, this is why so many people have bought into this area. We've felt pretty safe, and there's a lot of good middle class people living here. I just can't belive this happened," Manning said.

New Haven detectives are continuing their investigation, and they say they are making progress, but they still have more details to gather.
