WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- The car that struck 2 men, 21-year-old Richard Resto and 17-year-old Joshua Rodriguez, took off with a crushed windshield, dented hood, and missing light. An arrest was made Tuesday afternoon.

Joshua died Tuesday afternoon at Waterbury Hospital. He was going to turn 18 on Saturday.

"One of them passed, oh my god," witness Bruce Iverson said.

"Like i said, I feel bad for the two kids, I feel bad for their families and I pray every night for them now. I really ask God to keep them," Herbert Joyner, another witness, said.

Police have arrested 29-year-old Michael McHaney for manslaugher, assault with vehicle and evading responsibility. Police say they were able to identify the make and model of the car from a turn signal left at the scene.

After the vehicle description aired on the noon news, a woman at 47 Pearl Street called police about the car in their driveway.

"We all were surprised because like it was a big shock to all of us when the car was parked here. We didn't have any idea what happened until later on that day," Joyner said.

The car was found with a towel over the windshield and part of the headlight missing. They have towed it to the evidence garage where they will begin to process it soon, to put all of the pieces together and close the case.

"We believe there were 4 people in the car. We have located several of those people in the car and are in the process of interviewing them and the suspect himself did confess, admitted that he was the driver of the striking vehicle, and he fled the scene to avoid arrest," Captain Chris Corbit said.

The accident happened at the bottom of the Rt. 8 off ramp and Aurora Street. Police say besides the people in the car, there were two other witnesses on the sidewalk who saw the accident happen right in front of them.

"We're still investigating that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. We're also investigating the possibility of speed being a factor and were also looking into reconstructing the crash to see whether the traffic light was red or green," Capt. Corbit said.

McHaney is being held on $500,000 bond.
