WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A group of more than 100 walkers hit the boardwalk in West Haven Saturday morning for the 11th Annual Breast Cancer Walk.

The event continues to grow in popularity and participation.

Saturday, the outstanding weather made for a gorgeous walk along the Long Island Sound.

The event raises money for cancer research and a scholarship for a deserving student heading off the college.

News 8 got a chance to speak to that winner, who was extremely grateful for the honor.

"This organization is absolutely amazing," said Maureen Patrigani. "They do so much with this event, the polar plunge. They are an amazing group of people."

Patrigani plans to use her scholarship money to help pay for tuition her freshman year at Emmanuel College in Boston. She will major in chemistry.
