New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - A group of guys from Brookfield is going on a cross-country trip in a car that uses water as fuel.
Under the hood of their 1972 Mustang sits a hydrogen generator.
"It basically takes water and breaks it down in a molecular level between hydrogen and oxygen," explained Steve Melycher.
The car does use some gas, but supplements it with water energy. Once you flip the switch on the dashboard, you can see the bubbles going from the water canister into the generator.
"It goes into the safety device called the bubbler and the bubbler has a hose right here that feeds directly into the air cleaner which goes in through the air take of the carburetor," Melycher said.
With this technology, their car gets 60 miles to the gallon.
"We're gonna be spending the next month driving 9,000 miles to prove that the technology works," said Steve Schappert of Brookfield.
The guys are filming their cross-country trip and it includes a stop along the Gulf coast.
"It's just time, the world needs a miracle," said Schappert.
