WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — The membership board of Waterbury Hospital has approved plans to enter into a joint venture to build a new, state-of-the-art medical center in the area.
The Republican-American reports that the hospital board voted overwhelmingly Monday in favor of entering the partnership with Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury and Texas-based LHP Hospital Group to build the proposed $400 million medical center, which needs state approval.
The proposed 800,000-square-foot medical center with 400 private rooms would replace Waterbury Hospital and Saint Mary's Hospital, two facilities that both date back more than 100 years. LHP would own 80 percent of the joint venture, while the two hospitals would both get a 10 percent share.
Three sites are being discussed for the new hospital, including two in Waterbury and another in neighboring community.
