NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The first baby born in the New Year in Connecticut was born at Yale-New Haven Hospital. News 8 met the proud parents and the adorable baby boy.

Baby Seth Johnson entered the world at 12:06 a.m., making him the first baby born in Connecticut in 2013.

"Pretty weird," said Kelly Johnson, mom. "It wasn't expected that's for sure."

"It's pretty cool, pretty neat," said Ed Johnson, dad.

Weighing in at 8 lbs, 20.5 inches, baby Seth sure didn't rush his arrival.

"He took his sweet old time getting here...15 hours," Kelly said. "He decided to make his appearance right after midnight. He had a plan!"

From Durham, the proud parents also have four-year-old daughter Emma Claire, who wore a special shirt to show off her new big sister status. The parents say they're excited to get Seth home, but in the meantime, his birthday is being celebrated by many in the hospital.

"Our nurses were really excited and they made phone calls and figured out that we were the first ones and it was like a big department-wide celebration, so it was fun," Kelly said.

Ed says this day has extra special meaning because it's a big day for football and he has high expectations for his young boy. He says he wants him to be a football player, perhaps playing for the NY Giants one day.
