Pit bull killed dog near New Haven HS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A pit bull allegedly attacked and killed another dog in New Haven Tuesday morning.

The incident happened at 314 Munson Street around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Witnesses say a pit bull attacked and killed a neighbor's dog in front of school children.

The owner of the poodle who was killed told News 8 that the pit bull broke free from a metal chain.

"This vicious pit bull came out of nowhere and snatched him and just grabbed him by his neck and just dragged him two houses down," Allison De Roche, the owner of the poodle said.

De Roche told News 8 she watched the pit bull kill her 6-year-old poodle named 'Mister' on the sidewalk.

"He was the sweetest dog, the most loved dog in the neighborhood," De Roche said. "And it's just not fair to have someone that sweet taken away from you."

After killing the poodle, another neighbor says the pit bull was hanging around her house, stalking her dog. The police were called and then the neighbor watched the pit bull follow a girl down the sidewalk on her way to school.

James Hillhouse High School is only two blocks away from where the attack was reported.

"Please, don't have your dog loose on the street without chains to attack people or other animals," De Roche said.

Authorities are trying to track down the dog's owner from the rabies tag on his collar. For now, he's staying in the New Haven Animal Shelter.
