WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A woman was arrested after her 2-year-old son was found wandering unattended outside their West Haven home on Coleman Street.

A woman called police around 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday after she noticed the child, but couldn't locate his parents. A second complainant told officers he noticed the child 30 minutes earlier, also unattended.

The toddler was wearing only a diaper and a t-shirt.

Officers took custody of the boy and contacted officials at the Department of Children and Families.

Police say the boy was near his home at 89 Coleman Street, but his parents weren't inside.

Eventually, a neighbor called the boy's mother, 33-year-old Keishana Miller, who was arrested after she failed to explain what happened. She was charged with risk of injury to a child.

The toddler was released into the custody of his father while DCF investigates.
