Westbrook, Conn. (WTNH) - The drinking water is once again safe again for hundreds of neighbors in Westbrook.
Salt water from the Long Island Sound wound up in the public water system there after fire crews used sound water to help put douse a huge house fire earlier this week. Customers are being asked to run the water for a few minutes before use.
The fire started at a house on Captain's Drive. The water pressure was low at the time the fire sparked, so firefighters had to use sound water. However, a reverse flow caused the salt water to mix with drinking water.
About 250 homes were affected.
