Montville, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police have identified the human remains found in the woods in Montville over the weekend as a woman who has been missing for years.

The skull, rib cage, and other bones of Erika Cirioni were found in the woods along Oxoboxo Dam Road by a group of kids Sunday.

Cirioni was reported missing by her mother on January 3, 2007. The young mother went missing after a New Year's Eve celebration in Norwich in 2006.

Police said they have been actively investigating the circumstances of her disappearance since she was reported missing.

Cirioni's mother reportedly provided DNA samples and dental records to help officials confirm her identity.

There is no word yet on if it was a homicide.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone who may have information to provide regarding the Cirioni's disappearance is asked to call Detective Darren Powers at 860-886-5561, the anonymous tip line at 860-886-5561, extension 500 or e-mail crimetips@cityofnorwich.org.
