NIANTIC, Conn. (AP) — A career fair for military veterans is being held this week in Niantic.

The office of U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney says employers including Electric Boat, Mohegan Sun and Norwich Police Department have agreed to attend the event Wednesday at Camp Niantic.

A state jobs report released earlier this month showed Connecticut's unemployment rate had jumped to 8.5 percent, which is slightly higher than the national rate of 8.3 percent.

Courtney is a Democrat who represents eastern Connecticut. His office says staffers from the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs and VA Healthcare will be on hand to provide information on veterans hiring tax credits and federal resources.
