Cat stuck in tree for days runs off

PRESTON, CONN. (WTNH) - A cat stuck in a tree for several days, had been attracting quite a bit of attention, in Preston.

The cat was perched about 80-feet high above Nelson Drive.

The cat has been stuck in the tree for four days.

"I heard him crying when I came home from work," says Pearl Potter of Preston

Potter discovered the cat which on Thursday morning was sitting on a branch about a eighty feet above the ground.

"This is the fourth day through the thunder and the lightning and the rain," says Potter.

While cats can climb trees pretty easily, it's not always as easy to get back down. The Preston Public Works Director says there's about a ten foot section with no branches so most likely the little guy was too afraid to scale down that section and the fire department didn't have ladders tall enough to reach it.

Potter said he lost sleep worrying about the cat stuck outside in the storm.

"With people coming and checking and then knowing he's out here in the rain the other night when it was thundering and stuff, it was horrible to know he was out there," says Potter.

Potter may still lose sleep even though later in the day someone did get the cat down. The public works crews had a bucket truck come by, but when it arrived they found someone already in the tree, he had climbed up with a chain-saw. Even though the bucket truck could have safely saved the cat, the man cut off the branch sending the cat falling all the way to the ground. It ran off but no one knows if it was hurt.
