MYSTIC, Conn. (WTNH) -- It's going to be a merry Christmas for folks at local tree farms this year.
They're expecting a big boom in business this season, and if you want a real Christmas tree you'll want to get out there this weekend before they run out.
Yetter Farm in Mystic is ready for its two busiest weekends coming up.
"How big of a tree are you looking for?"
Taylor Spinnato and her husband Michael beat the crowds by getting there on Friday.
"We're the only ones here so it's pretty nice," Taylor said.
"Did you plan it that way," asked News 8's Tina Detelj.
"No, it was a surprise," Taylor said.
They are picking out their first tree as a married couple.
"Who has more influence on what you get," asked Detelj.
"It's pretty equal," Taylor said. "We seem to agree, so it's good."
The one thing they want is a tree which will last a long time. In case you're wondering, these folks say the shorter needles last longer.
Already many people tagged their tree on Black Friday, but there's still plenty left for the 1,200 people expected during the next two weekends.
"Usually we don't have anybody walk away unhappy," said Michelle Umrysz, Yetter Tree Farm. "Or treeless. Treeless, yes."
They have 11 different types of trees on their 11 acres.
Folks there say they have more people coming in looking for trees than they have trees, so to prepare for the busy weekend coming up they've brought in trees from their farm in Vermont. They're pretty tall and they say they're taller than the ones in the field right now.
At least the ones that haven't been tagged yet. A 6 foot tree takes 10 years to grow.
"We're prepared," said Umbrysz. "We always are, we've been doing it for 34 years."
The Spinnatos got what they wanted: a Douglas Fir.
"Looks pretty big. You might have a big living room huh," asked Detelj.
"Not too big," Taylor said, "but we love Christmas so it will be wonderful."
